Headed Home!

Finally!  After a bit of some disappointment at Camping World of Statesville (read about that here), today was finally the day I get to bring the RV home!

Ok, well maybe not quite home, but to my parents house, just in time to do some “mooch-docking” – you know, parking the RV at someone’s house and mooching their electricity to keep your A/C and fridge, etc. running!

Mooch-docking at the parents! Woo-hoo free electricity, nice steamy hot showers. Too bad they don’t have a full 30/50 amp and dump services.

The drive home was extremely hot!  When I bought the RV, the previous owner mentioned he had taken apart the squirrel cage of the dash air conditioning to replace the motor.  The new motor was in the bedroom, but hadn’t been installed.  So, I knew that was one of the first items on my checklist to start working on.  In the meantime, we drove home with the windows opened, but with driving into Charlotte during rush hour traffic (and anyone who has ever driven through Charlotte by Lake Norman knows that it’s completely stopped because apparently when you see a lake you have to stop and stare, not drive!) meant it would be quite hot without air circulation.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal as I could flip on the generator and run the house air conditioning, but checklist item number two is looking at why the generator stopped working a few weeks ago.  Supposedly it was working but then completely stopped working.  But, again, nothing that can’t be looked at.

The entire drive was first of, the longest I’ve ever driven the RV or any RV for that matter, but I think I handled it well.  From braking in traffic, maintaining speed, taking corners and turns, I felt very comfortable driving it.  And, I am overly amazed at how comfortable the seats are!

Next stop:  Parents house!  Drive time:  2 hours 40 minutes, Mileage: 66.3 miles
