Where oh where?

This is a recurring conversation I keep having – where oh where is Tyler at!  While my last post is my drivers log from August 13th, I haven’t really moved around too much.  Ok, that’s a bit of a lie, I should say my RV hasn’t moved around too much!

Week 1: Camp

My drivers log was accurate!  That’s always a good thing.  I did pull into Thousand Trails in Advance, NC and spent a week camping.  I had an absolute blast.  In fact, it gave me plenty of time to do some more organizing, unpacking, and finally relaxing!  I strung up the lights on my awning which gives it an awesome ambience at night!  This was a chore as the utility track and the end cap don’t exactly line up from when it was previously installed is my guess.  But, doesn’t appear to be something my dremel can’t fix!  That’s going to have to wait, for now I have two tracks in and just enough light.  For now, it’s white but I will eventually look at some other options.

Camping was a lot fun, oops – sorry!  Living was a lot of fun, I have to keep reminding myself that I’m not camping, I’m living in a RV and working.  That is much different as camping is fun, camping is relaxing, and camping is sitting by a campfire roasting marshmallows and telling late night stories.

Ok, now I’m starting to confuse myself, because I’m doing all of that, the best of both worlds!  Working, Living, Camping, and meeting people, sitting around roasting marshmallows.  Life is great!  In fact, Friday night, my parents and my two youngest nieces drove up to hang out.  It’s always a blast!  The kids swam in the baby pool, which was right next to the stage where the DJ was spinning the latest dance music, best of the 90s and todays.  Kids everywhere were dancing!

Week 2: Storage

Here is where things get a bit interesting, I need to be in Raleigh for a week, but my car isn’t yet hooked up to the RV.  I have an appointment for the following week.  Which leaves me two options – drive to Raleigh in the RV and store it there, leave my car in Charlotte, rent a car, or try to get a ride.  All of these seemed to be less than ideal as I’d still need to get back towards Charlotte (Kannapolis) to get my car and the service done on it, so I opted to move the appointment to the following week, drive my car up there and… put my RV in storage where I’m at now (Thousand Trails, Advance, NC).

Storage brings back lots of memories, we stored our RV growing up here in this exact storage area for years, so it wasn’t unfamiliar.  But the walk back from dropping it off (and walking back to my car) was quite unfamiliar and long!  Needless to say, I paid the $32 for the week to store the RV (way cheaper than gas to Raleigh and back), packed a suitcase and headed to Raleigh.

While in Raleigh, I had to leave to head to Seattle to meet with Microsoft for a deep dive on one of their products.  It was worth while but the flight was definitely a toll on me!  I left Raleigh at 5:30pm, arrived to Seattle Wednesday night at 9pm, met with Microsoft from 7:30am until 8:00pm, boarded a 10pm flight and was at work at 10am on Friday.

Week 3: Camp

Yeah, yeah, yeah – it’s not camping!  But, this time the same site I was in was no longer available, so I had to pick a new site.  Thankfully for my feet this one was right next to the storage area and left me with little walking.  The site overall is nice, its mostly level, and for better or worse, there is a giant, bright, street light outside of my bedroom window.  But, overall it’s nice.  I’m here for just 5 days – when I finally go pick up my car, and meet freedom!  The ability to tow my car and be completely independent means I can now explore more places!

Site 2 at TTN Forest Lake

What’s next?

My thoughts are I’m going to head towards Florida – there are some groups meeting down there and it happens to be Microsoft’s annual customer conference, and considering there is a Thousand Trails campground just 19 miles away which I can reserve for 21 days, I think it’s a win-win!  Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that I’m picking up my car!  A quite expensive but necessary addition – look for that post next :).
