Wow, what a busy and crazy last month it has been! I’ve been “mooch-docking” again at the parents while I had to escape the path of Hurricane Irma. As I was planning a cruise for my birthday in October, I figured I’d stay put until leaving for the cruise. This gave me a chance to knock out a HUGE amount of many needed projects.
The List
The list, you know the honey do list, or the ever growing, never accomplishing, crazy list that everyone has? Yep, that one. It seems since starting my full timing adventure in July that I keep finding little things here and there I want to either update, move, buy, etc. So, I started writing these on my whiteboard until that got filled up, and then I realized what better place to put them then my blog! So, grab a drink and some popcorn first, and then check it out:
ITEMS DONE:
- Glue Kitchen Table (the melamine around the edges were popping off)
- Dryer Exhaust Vent Replaced (it was broken, and I wanted to seal it off and insulate)
- Washer and Dryer Removed (I would rather have the closet space)
- All cabinets/closets lined with shelf liner and cleaned
- TV in bedroom mounted (because really – who doesn’t need a TV in the bedroom?)
- New Dash Radio installed (I guess after 17 years they don’t like to work!)
- New Speakers Installed for Radio (careful, you may hear me jammin’ out to some Adele driving down the road HAHA!)
- LP Gas Leak Identified (I’m saving this for another post…)
- House Batteries and Chassis Batteries secured (they are just sitting on the front frame, not secured – I’m pretty sure they should be secured to prevent moving while going over a bump!)
- Awning Re-aligned (when I rolled it up, I noticed the awning was extremely off center)
- Dash Air Conditioning (needed new custom made blower fans – my dad’s super genius at making this work, and my brother is amazingly flexible at installing them while he’s acrobatically upside down and under the dash)
- Outside molding re-riveted (it’s a bit embarrassing when you are driving 70mph down the road and your driver side moulding is at a 90 degree angle into the other lane, causing you to duct tape it)
- New King TV Antenna (with the new Digital TV signals, I needed a newer and longer reception for my TV antenna)
- Seal Roof (you wouldn’t want your house to rain puddles on you either – so I was proactive in preventing this!)
- Make a desk (A whole new post coming soon! And yes, this means no longer am I working at the dashboard)
- Mount spare tire under RV (I just didn’t love the idea of a whole compartment of storage being used for a spare tire)
- Fix Wiper Blades (the on/off switch was missing – my dad came up with an awesome idea to replace it with a new knob)
- Replace Wiper Washer Resoivor (When I bought the RV, there was a huge section of the plastic housing missing… hard to keep fluid in there with that! Thankfully, I found a new universal one that worked like a charm)
- Make Leveling Ramps (My dad was able to custom design lightweight but heavy duty/sturdy ramps for leveling the RV – and yes, hydraulic jacks are definitely on the future RV wish list!)
- Replace city water connection (this actually happened on my first trip, we noticed the inlet valve for city water was broken. A replacement part found on Amazon did the trick. This trip though, I attached some quick connect connections to the hose and the city water inlet valve to make hookup quicker and faster!)
- Replace Microwave and Moulding (For some reason, within the first few weeks the microwave went out – I’m suspecting it’s from low voltage + time, but thankfully I had a nice new one I had just bought before full timing that I took from storage. With a little custom molding, it looks great).
- LP Gas Regulator and Leak Detector (Probably one of the hardest things to find, but this device detects leaks, and as such, will only allow LP gas to flow through from the tank IF the detector is working correctly – meaning isn’t expired (who knew they expired!?), has the right voltage, and does not detect a leak. A whole post on this coming soon!)
- Seal Windows/Storage Cabinets/Cracks (There are a few places where new silicone and sealant need to be applied to ensure there aren’t any leaks. This is in progress)
- Wash Windows and Screens (I need to get to a truck wash, but in the meantime, I guess I can break out some windex!)
- CB Antenna Replaced (Because, who doesn’t love a good trucker conversation while driving? Oh, and my CB name handle? Well, you just may have to catch me on the radio to find out!)
- New Cycolone vents (for the black and grey tanks, new vents installed and sealed on the rooftop)
- New Vent Covers (it would suck to find your RV flooded because you left a vent open right? Some new Camco vent covers help prevent that rain from coming in and allow me to drive with the vents open)
- Replace Shocks (The ride wasn’t super smooth, so I figured while mooch-docking, and a mechanic was here (my brother!), why not take advantage of it?
- Replace Sway Bar End Links (I must say, this isn’t something I even knew of, but after some very rough rides the last few times at slow speeds and around the campgrounds, it turns out I had some broken sway bar end links. Replacement parts from Rock Auto were a breeze to find, and my brother graciously installed them.)
- Replace Desk/Dinnette Seats (Old, stained, and rough plywood wasn’t exactly my cup of tea to have as the bench seats from my former dinette, now Office desk, so I cut some new seats from 3/4″ plywood that was sanded and stained)
- Make a new flag holder and garden flag holder (who doesn’t love decorating, and this was one of the easiest ways!)
All this and I’m still not done! Just a few remaining projects remain, and then after the cruise I’ll be setting out on an exciting new adventure, with possibly a co-pilot guest! Stay tuned after the cruise to find out more.
