Have you ever heard of a RV Port Home? It’s basically a house which integrates your RV into your everyday living. Instead of buying a RV, putting it in storage, and forgetting about it, a RV Port Home will actually use your RV in a garage like setting, with full hookups, covered storage, and room to use the RV.
I just bought a new RV, am I thinking of stopping my travels? Absolutely not! However, as a full time professional, I still need to ensure that I have plans for how I’ll continue to earn income on the road. While my job allows me to work remotely today, as we saw a few years ago with Yahoo!, you never know what tomorrow will bring. Anything can happen – change in job policies, change in job, health reasons (broken bones – but let’s not jinx it) to you name it, having a plan is always a smart thing to do.
It could also be to look at times when I want to stay in a place for a few months, instead of moving every 21 days or so. Not having to move, or having a place to call home has its advantages (and disadvantages!), so I’ve been intrigued by them over the last six months.
I happened to stumble across a port home just outside of the Gulf Shores of Alabama, and being right off I-10 I thought it was awesome. This particular community, Reunion Pointe, also has a Test Drive option. For a small fee, you can stay for a few days up to a week, with your own RV and make yourself at home. The neighbors you will think are your best friends and all share a common interest (RVing), the community amenities are quaint and very upscale, and the location is so close to everything you need. You can be by the water in just a 10 minute drive, you can find unique dive restaurants or big chain retailers all around you. The downtown is one you’ll be sure to stop by and browse.
These RV Port Homes are all over the place, from Arizona to Florida, you’ll find a different variety of these homes. They may range from a simple garage with an additional, to a typical house with a large garage, suitable for a RV.
The thing I like about the Reunion Pointe is not only is everything done with super high quality materials, the area is quiet and safe, but the homes are very well thought out. They are extremely functional. From Murphy Beds integrated to an office, to flexible spaces and layouts, to the very large doors, high ceilings, and perfectly manicured landscapes. It’s really hard to only spend a week here, and not just be ready to move in.
Because this was so close to the route we were taking to get to Texas, I had to book a week stay here! And, as a special surprise, since my mom and dad hadn’t been here, I decided to fly my mom down and let her enjoy the 80 degree November weather this weekend. Unfortunately, we had a bit of overcast weather, and it was a bit cooler, but we still had a great time. From going to Flora-Bama Grill, to the worldly famous McGuires Irish Pub (check out my Instagram for that), walking on the beach, and shopping at every type of place, I would say we had an overall great time. Just a week more of work and we’ll be on our way to Texas.
But, be sure to check out the drone footage of the house and neighborhood, it was definitely a great visit. If you’re in the market for a fantastic home, you should be sure to give Joan and Jeannie a shout. I bet you’ll fall in love!
The house as I mentioned is built with the highest of quality I’ve ever seen, and unfortunately these pictures don’t do it justice. But, hopefully you get an idea of the house.
Have you ever seen a concept like this? Would you see yourself spending some time in a place like this, or have you done a test-drive in one of these homes? Let me know your thoughts below!
