. . . and grow up with the country!
I figured this was a fitting quote (from John Babsone Lane Soule and later Horace Greeley) for my westward adventures.
It’s been a very busy few months, and as I look at the calendar, I quickly realize I’m coming up on my one year of RVing full time. It’s amazing to see where the time goes.
I imagined I’d be further west (in California) by now, but given the amount of unpredictable weather we had on the East coast during Fall of 2017, it really sets in my mind of the lifestyle of what I’m doing. No longer do I have to rush to make a deadline (like checking into a hotel) or working around vacation. I am able to go slow, at a steady pace, and really enjoy life, stop and smell the roses, and pick the thorns. Some days, you just have to take for granted what you have, and appreciate it.
Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows (as you heard from my busted water heater post, having to take cold showers, short showers, or rely on the public bathhouses). Rather it’s truly an adventure. And something I am overly thankful for. We all too often get caught up in the depressing news, political battles, and past lifetimes. When I stop for a bit, and instead of look at where I’m going and stop thinking of how much more I have to see, but to look at what I have SEEN, suddenly, I have an overwhelming smile on my face, and a tremendous story to tell.
That is exactly what I’m doing. Every single day is a step towards my dream, and when you finally sit down and start making plans, you realize how real things are. Sure, plans change. Sure, work trips and onsite visits occur, but that’s just part of the adventure.
So, where to now? Well, West, obviously! But, more specifically – I’m headed to Norman, OK – there is supposedly a pretty rad music festival I plan on checking out. From there, I head towards the Grand Canyon for a two week stay, with a few stops in between – including an really awesome looking Route 66 Casino. I’ll have to update you on that once I visit.
Plans, which we all know likely are to change, puts me into California in the first week of June. 11 months of full timing, and I will have had made a successful trip from Coast to Coast. Let’s cross our fingers that I make it there!
