Funny story, I knew I needed to get gas at some point but I had an eighth tank of gas so once I got on the highway I’d start looking for a gas station. Boy, was I wrong!
This was my first trip solo, and my first trip with my new toad CR-V in tow! Already my first issue I realized was I forgot to put in my handrail so I had to stop at the next place I could or a red light. Of course this would be when I hit all the green lights! So I finally get to a gas station but realize there is no way I can get into one of the pumps and since I cant backup with the car in tow, I need to fix the railing and head to another gas station.
Making my way to the next gas station at the stone crest shopping center, I just shy of get the hose to reach, all while blocking both the entrance and exit. I walked around the building to make sure I’d have clearance above and on the sides to get around. Just shy of the dumpster I made my way back and drove through it. With now about a 1/16th of a tank I start to worrh about where I’ll be getting gas. Oh, and I probably need to also pack away a gas can for future use – hoping, praying, and ensuring I don’t need it on THIS trip!
Without gas, and leaving stonecrest, I head onto 485 thinking I can go to Sams club which has a bit easier in and out, but a bit more traffic. Headed south, I finally made way to the BP at Steele Creek but not without panic! After getting to a pump and adjusting to get the hose to reach, I realize I was withing inches of the pump after turning. It was extremely tight quarters.
Lesson Learned – when you are at about a half tank of gas and on a highway with trucker and RV friendly gas pumps – stop and take advantage, fill it up. Oh, and if it’s anything like a prior trip, you will end up saving money. Just four days later of not filling up my tank, fuel prices rose $0.64/gallon. Yikes!
