Nothing like rain when in the RV, but storms are completely something else!
I was on my way back to the RV this evening getting from getting groceries and dinner when all of a sudden I noticed it was strangely overly black in the sky. Shortly after noticing that, I saw what seemed to be one of the largest bolts of lightning which seemed “stuck” in the sky.
Then, I happened to notice that I no longer had cellular service (when previously I would have five bars) so I knew a storm was on its way.
I opened my weather app with storm tracking (The Weather Channel Storm Radar app) and sure enough, there were five lightning strikes to touchdown within a few miles. I knew I needed to get back quickly. Thankfully, I didn’t have the awning out, although unfortunately I knew I would be soaked.
The traffic on the highway slowed to about 10-15 miles per hour and more and more vehicles and trucks were pulling off to the side of the road. I made my way to my exit and creepily in the pitch dark make it to the campground. Thankfully we had power and the gate would open.
As I got to the RV, I found that the power had tripped and it looks like it was out for about 15 minutes. Everything was working and no fires so all in all life was good.
That was hours ago, it is still storming and my heart rate is racing! I keep making sure I’m leak free, and that trees are healthy around me. Watching the storms are nice, but… it’s a relief when they are over! Here’s to a peaceful quiet and uneventful evening.
Here’s the current radar:
I’ve already heard from a Facebook Friend who just started their journey to full time who unfortunately had a very large tree come through their RV this evening from a quick pop up storm. Thankfully they were ready and got to safety and have a safe dry place to stay this evening. It is always important to be ready in case of any emergency.
Here is a picture of their RV ????
I hate to see this especially after they just found their perfect RV for them and just started.
With the upcoming Hurricane Irma expecting to hit the East Coast this weekend makes me overly cautious and checking the weather more frequently. Being full time in the RV means being flexible and really making sure I plan as much as I can but adapt to changing weather. I may be staying more inland GA this next weekend versus my planned stay to Savannah GA.
Stay tuned to hear more of the journey and I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated. In the meantime, hoping my friends and coworkers in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas are all staying safe and dry and my friends and colleagues in western coast is surviving the nasty wildfires.
