If you ask almost any of my friends what my favorite movies are to go see, you’ll likely be told I don’t watch movies. It’s true!
It isn’t that I don’t like movies, I tend to just forget to go see the long list of movies I think I want to see. Working with technology and behind a computer screen all day long doesn’t bode well for wanting to go sit behind a tv screen. But, find a great movie (just not scary) and hit me at the right time and there is recipe for success.
The Perfect Trailer
It just so happens I came across a movie trailer for “The Leisure Seeker” and immediately was intrigued enough to click play on the trailer. I was hooked. I had to go see this.
Being an hour plus away from Dallas, my options for theaters were limited. I found a theater about 30-45 minutes away and, of course it wasn’t playing. I added it to my list and knew it would get forgotten.
Fast forward to a few weeks later when I was in Charlotte on business, I decided what better time than to check it out. So o found a theatre, took an Uber and viola.
Sitting in a theatre alone, my movie started. (But not without popcorn!). Ten minutes in I was laughing. And then sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation. And then laughing. And nodding my head saying yep. Sounds familiar.
The Movie
For those who haven’t heard of the movie or seen the trailer, which is below, the plot is that an elderly couples wife decides to take the dementia progressing, former English professor of a husband on a trip to the Hemingway house where he has always longed to go. Timing is right as she is in need of medical care herself. Days before her own treatment and without letting anyone know, she fires up the old 1975 Winnebago RV and sets out.
It was interesting for me that the story was based in Wellesley, MA – a town known well by my own family. Having just visited the Hemingway house myself in May of last year with a dearest of friend made it all that more special. From the tour, the garden, the bedrooms, and the cats – all history I have seen and photographed is now on the big screen. I was in heaven.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows
It’s true. I told you I was on the edge of my seat. From my own fears to mechanical issues – the story perfectly portrays this. Of course, you can’t beat the actual sunshine and rainbow moments. They really do exist.
The movie in my eyes would have been an easy 10 out of 10. The ending absolutely dropped the score for me to probably a 7/10 if that.
Would I recommend you go see this? One hundred percent I would. The movie is fantastic. While it isn’t playing at most main stream theaters, you will still find lots of them playing it.
What are you waiting for? Go check out the movie! And if you’ve seen it or plan on it, let me know in the comments below.
